Part 6: Arthur Fights to Expose His Uncle’s Deadly Conspiracy Before Destroying the Mainframe in a Desperate Bid for Survival

The siren wails bounced violently off the concrete walls, drowning out the roar of idling engines outside the shutter doors.

Arthur’s phone slipped from his numb fingers, shattering against the oil-slicked floor. Six billion dollars moved in seconds. A dead paper trail with his digital signature forged onto every line.

«Arthur, move!» Elena yelled, shoving him toward the jagged opening in the garage floor.

He didn’t hesitate. They scrambled through the burning wreckage of the Maybach and plunged into the darkness of the utility tunnel just as the heavy security shutter breached, blinding tactical lights flooding the upper level above them. Heavy combat boots hit the floor overhead, accompanied by the muffled shouts of heavily armed officers.

The drop into the sub-basement was brutal. Arthur hit the gravel floor hard, a sharp, white-hot agony shooting up his shattered elbow that nearly forced him into unconsciousness. He suppressed a scream, dragging himself behind a row of thick, copper cooling pipes. Elena landed beside him with a ragged gasp, her fingers instantly locking onto his arm.

«The server room is three hundred yards ahead,» she whispered, her voice barely audible over the hum of high-voltage transformers lining the corridor. «If Sarah reaches the mainframe before we do, she’s going to initiate the total scrub. Every trace of Julian’s real identity will vanish, and you’ll be left holding the fall for a ghost.»

«Why did you wait until now to tell me about Julian?» Arthur demanded, forcing himself up against the pipe, his eyes burning from the dust and sweat. «You let me believe my father was alive. You let me hunt shadows for three years!»

Elena met his gaze, her dark eyes glistening in the dim green emergency lighting. «Because Julian has Alex. If I spoke a word before tonight, he promised to send me my son’s fingers one by one. I only cooperated tonight because I thought we were getting the drive that opens Julian’s safe house!»

She reached down, pulling a small, blood-stained keycard from her boot—the genuine access key, completely different from the tracking drive Sarah had blown up. «I stole it off Sarah while we were fighting on the concrete.»

Before Arthur could process the sight of the key, a sharp click echoed from twenty feet further down the pitch-black corridor.

The beam of a high-powered tactical light cut through the haze, pinning them both against the humid brick wall.

«Hand it over, Elena,» Sarah’s voice rang out from behind the light. She stepped into view, holding a sleek, suppressed carbine relaxed against her shoulder. The fire from the explosion above had scorched the side of her face, leaving her jaw raw and bleeding, but her eyes were stone cold. «You were never supposed to survive the car blast. Julian doesn’t like loose threads.»

Arthur shifted his body subtly, shielding Elena as his good hand tightened around the heavy steel revolver he’d pulled from the upper garage floor. «You served my family for eight years, Sarah. You sat at my dinner table.»

«I served Julian,» Sarah corrected smoothly, taking a slow step forward. «Your father was weak, Arthur. He wanted to give this company to charity, to break up the tech holdings. Julian had vision. And he paid me five million dollars to make sure you never found out the truth.»

«Five million?» Elena sneered, edging behind Arthur. «Check your accounts, Sarah. If he just wiped Arthur’s six billion, what makes you think your offshore cut is still waiting for you?»

Sarah’s eyes flickered with a micro-fraction of doubt. Her finger tightened on the trigger. «Nice try, Elena.»

«Call your bank,» Arthur challenged, taking a step directly into her sightline. «He called you ‘impetuous’ over the intercom, Sarah. He treated you like an errand girl. You think he’s leaving you a seat at the table once the SWAT team clears this building?»

Sarah’s breath hitched slightly. Her free hand slowly moved toward her tactical belt, pulling out her secure comms device. She tapped the screen, her eyes remaining locked on Arthur’s chest.

A automated automated voice echoed faintly from her device: Account access revoked. Security clearance zero.

Sarah froze. The color drained completely from her scorched face.

In that split second of betrayal, Arthur raised the revolver and fired.

The gunshot deafened the narrow tunnel. The bullet caught Sarah in the shoulder, knocking her backward into the dark. Her carbine clattered against the metal catwalk as she tumbled down a secondary access ladder, disappearing into the lower drainage levels.

«We don’t have time,» Elena gasped, tugging Arthur’s coat. «The police are breaking through the garage access now!»

They sprinted down the corridor, reaching the reinforced steel vault door of the central server room. Elena slammed the stolen keycard into the reader. The light flashed green, and the pneumatic locks hissed open with a heavy thud.

The room inside was massive, filled with rows of ice-blue server racks humming in unison. But standing in the center of the room, standing right in front of the master terminal, was a figure in a tailored charcoal suit.

He turned slowly around.

The face was undeniable—the exact jawline, the piercing blue eyes, the silver hair swept back impeccably. It was Marcus Vance. Or rather, Julian Vance.

«Welcome to the heart of the empire, Arthur,» Julian said smoothly, stepping away from the glowing screen. He wasn’t holding a weapon; he held a crystal glass of scotch in one hand. «You look tired, my boy.»

«Step away from the console,» Arthur said, raising his revolver with a trembling arm, his vision starting to blur from blood loss. «It’s over, Julian. The police are upstairs.»

«The police are coming to arrest you,» Julian corrected, taking a sip of his drink. «They’re coming for the rogue executive who murdered his staff and stole the company’s entire treasury. Do you really think they’ll listen to a man who looks completely insane?»

«I have the keycard,» Elena snapped, stepping forward. «The physical access log proves you were in this room, using Marcus’s root clearance.»

Julian chuckled softly, a chillingly gentle sound. «My dear Elena. Did you really think I left the child at the safe house?»

Elena stopped dead in her tracks. «What did you say?»

Julian reached into his pocket and pressed a button on a small video tablet, turning it toward them. On the live screen, a small four-year-old boy was sitting peacefully in a brightly lit room, playing with toy blocks. Sitting right beside the boy, holding a glass of juice, was a woman whose face made Arthur’s blood run cold.

It was Arthur’s mother—a woman who had supposedly been buried twelve years ago.

«Say hello to your grandmother, Alex,» Julian said into the microphone smoothly.

Elena let out a suffocated sob, dropping to her knees on the cold tile. «No… no, she died in the hospital…»

«She went into hiding, just like I did,» Julian said softly, stepping closer to Arthur, the barrel of Arthur’s gun resting just inches from his uncle’s chest. «We built this together, Arthur. Everything you’ve ever known, every memory, every tragic loss… it was all carefully staged to bring you to this exact moment. You were never meant to inherit the throne. You were built to be the sacrifice.»

«I’ll kill you right here,» Arthur rasped, his finger tightening on the trigger.

«If my heart rate drops below sixty, the automated broadcast triggers,» Julian whispered, leaning into the muzzle of the gun. «It releases a command that wipes every server in this room, deletes the video feed, and locks the safe house doors permanently. Alex will starve in a sealed room, Arthur. Pull the trigger. I dare you.»

Arthur stared into the eyes of the monster who had worn his father’s face for fifteen years. Sweat poured down his neck. The heavy footfalls of the tactical team were now ringing directly outside the vault door.

«Hands in the air! Police!» a loud voice boomed from the threshold behind them. Red laser dots instantly painted Arthur’s back, chest, and head. «Drop the weapon now!»

Julian smiled warmly at Arthur, stepping back and raising his hands in mock surrender. «Help us!» Julian cried out to the officers, his voice laced with brilliant, convincing terror. «He’s lost his mind! He’s going to shoot!»

Arthur looked at Elena, who was paralyzed on the floor, staring at the screen showing his mother and her son. He looked at Julian’s triumphant smile.

Then, Arthur lowered the gun—not toward the floor, but directly at the master server column overhead, and squeezed the trigger three times.

The control panel detonated in a shower of sparks and blue electricity. The main power grids died instantly, plunging the entire facility into absolute, pitch-black darkness, followed immediately by the screaming alarm of an automated lock-down.

In the dark, a hand suddenly grabbed Arthur’s collar from behind, and a voice—not Julian’s, and not a police officer’s—whispered directly into his ear.

«If you want to save your mother, don’t make a sound.»
